Tomorrow she will be the bride. She is in love with the world and ready to make a serious commitment to it. No longer does she half-heartedly love herself and her life while secretly keeping a back door open for dreams of elsewhere, different – better. She is here on this confusing, painful and delightful planet where you can be ill, hungry, lonely, but also enthralled by a daisy growing between the paving stones. Here, in this body, at this time, bodily-deep in the earthly, temporary reality of a carnal being she is certain: she wants to take on everything, absorb it, devour it and spit it back out again.

Do not bend to the will of others says the bride. Do not make yourself more acceptable in others’ eyes. Do not swallow your words and never stifle your feelings. Do not censor your soul to follow trends or to be en-vogue. Being en-vogue is highly overrated. Being ironic is a waste of time, particularly being sarcastic. The bride calls you to life – a full and authentic life. Awaken from your semi-slumber and contribute to a wonderful world, a fairer society. Follow your obsessions unbridled, make pointless adjustments and return wildly to the untamed being that you are. Embrace everything that has a soul and ignore all else.

The bride is the centre of her own life – the star in her own reality show. She does not shy away from raw pain but knows from experience that you can also grow inwardly through joy and pleasure. Her message says that things that give you pleasure are never a waste of time. So be frivolous out of a sense of duty. Give priority to everything that opens your heart and makes it beat faster. Do not transcend anything, do not escape anything but fully incarnate in the body you have chosen and allow your soul to reach from your toes to your fingertips. Because only then can you bring what you have to contribute in this life and learn what you are here to learn.

Slip the ring on your finger, fold back your veil, and say I do! I want to live!

-Susan Smit
